On Sept. 23rd at 12:15pm Mass, parishioners of Our Lady of Czestochowa witnessed, first since year 2000, renewal of the religious vows within our community. Br. Janusz Kolbusz, who came to Canada in January of this year, made his temporary renewal. We wish him many blessings as he makes his progress in a journey for the permanent profession.
While celebrating our Jubilee Year, Sisters Maksymiliana and Dawida visited our parishes in London and Toronto, where they spoke at the end of the Masses, about the Congregation, charism and ministry Sisters are engaged in. They also had an opportunity to learn the challenging game of golf, visit Ontarios landmarks, and from Sep. 21-23 they lead over forty people in a retreat at the Michaelite House Retreat Centre. Even though it was the first trip to Canada, Sisters made an impact where ever they went. Way to go Sisters! We look to the day when the Michaelite Sisters will work and minister in Canada and USA.
This jubilee year also marks another jubilee that one of our special guest Fr. Rector A. Ogrodnik was celebrating. Fifty years ago he was ordained as a priest. To mark this golden jubilee Fr. Aleksander celebrated a special Mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa on Sept. 9th. Its pastor Fr. Zbigniew Rodzinka was the homilist. It was in this church that our jubilarian was a priest while serving in Canada at the beginning of the seventies. Happy Anniversary Fr. Rector.
It could not be otherwise as to visit during this Jubilee Year, a new frontier of the Michaelite ministry Detroit, Michigan, USA. It is in this city that we have been invited by the local bishop to take custody of one of the parishes of the Archdiocese of Detroit. On Sep. 19th, General Superior Fr. Kazimierz Radzik, General Treasurer Fr. Jerzy Sosinski, Vicar General of Michaelite Sisters Sr. Maksymiliana Ciepala, General Secretary of the Michaelite Sisters Sr. Dawida Ryll, and Fr. Andrew Kowalczyk went to visit our new parish and its elementary school. Delightful day was finished with the reception at the Bishops Francis Reiss residence. There we met the bishop of Toledo, Ohio Leonard Paul Blair. Friendly visit ended with bishops blessing.
Every year we have the benefit to celebrate St. Michaels feast twice. One, at our Retreat Centre on the second Sunday of September and the other one, on the 29th of September, the actual feast of the Archangels. The history of the first celebration goes back to the seventies when Fr. Edvin Mucha started it. Today forty years later it is still being continued and this year, Sept. 9th, had a special meaning as we mark the Jubilee Year. Just before 3 pm on this Sunday afternoon, Fr. Eugene Dziedzic prepared the crowd of near thousand people for the Mass . Bishop Emeritus Mathew Ustrzycki of Hamilton was the main celebrant and our General Superior was the homilist. This annual feast celebration gathered over 30 priests. Among them was Fr. Julian Chmura, of USA. At the end of the Mass, Rector of the University of Lublin, Fr. Antoni Debinski handed a special medal to our Community as a recognition and thanksgiving for our work in Canada and support of CUL. Youth band from Our Lady of Czestochowa played during and after the Mass. It is already a tradition that polish paczki and coffee is being offered for all participants. At the end of the day, we gathered outside to plant a special Jubilee Tree. During our special festive meal, Sr. Dawide read a few of her poems and Fr. Eugene with the Michaelite choir serenaded till late evening.
